Artists know the value of taking a step back. In fact, all of us recognize that when we’re struggling with a problem or mired in a project, sometimes the best thing we can do is take a break and clear our minds. When we return, our perspective has changed, we’re sharper–and the seemingly impossible task is more quickly accomplished.

Unfortunately, we have a tough time taking time out. The story of Creation says God rested on the seventh day. He was not fatigued, but He took the step back like an artist and enjoyed His creation. He also gave Adam and Eve a day of rest. In fact, Seventh-day Adventists believe He intended for this day of restoration to be a permanent, weekly holiday. All Adventist healthcare institutions around the globe encourage a day of Sabbath rest to recharge and replenish, to serve the needs of others, and to renew our connection with God.
